Akers Land & Ecology first arrived onsite at Houlton in 2013, brought in as a specialist ecology contractor to create two large receptor sites and carry out the translocation of Great Crested Newts. We were the first contractor onsite and have not left since first arriving 13 years ago. Today we remain on site and continue to create and manage habitats and amenity spaces for our client.
Wildlife corridors
Our primary role has been to build a network of wildlife corridors that run throughout the development. This has involved the creation of over 200 ponds, 1,000’s of meters of self binding gravel footpaths and cycle ways, hedgerows and wild flower meadows, scrub, woodland and orchard planting. In addition we’ve restored a water course and installed numerous pedestrian bridges.
Sports pitches, parks, allotments and construction site services
Not only have we created 1000’s of meters of ecology corridors, Akers Land & Ecology have also been contracted to build 5 football pitches to Sports England specification, community allotments, pocket parks and play grounds and have carried out numerous site hoarding, security fencing, tree, muck shift and demolition works.
